The award ceremony to be held on the 28th of January at the TRIESTE FILM FESTIVAL

The winner of this year’s Best Italian Film award established by The National Union of Italian Film Critics (SNCCI) is FAI BEI SOGNI by Marco Bellocchio. The accolade, which is decided upon by a “referendum” open to all members of the Union, who are asked to choose among the Italian titles released throughout 2016, will be awarded on the 28th of January during the 28th edition of the Trieste Film Festival.

In occasion of the award, as well as a screening of Fai bei sogni, the Trieste Film Festival will host a public meet-up with Marco Bellocchio.

“We are happy that the SNCCI has chosen an event like the Trieste Film Festival as the platform for their initiative – the artistic directors Fabrizio Grosoli and Nicoletta Romeo explain -: because although the festival is mainly dedicated to a specific geographical area (central and eastern Europe) it has always supported Italian Cinema, as shown through our initiatives like the Corso Salani Award, which is dedicated to national productions awaiting distribution”.

For Franco Montini, the president of the SNCCI, “the choice of the Trieste Film Festival follows on from our collaboration last year for the Critics Film Award 2015 given to Inherent Vice. This year, the international accolade is accompanied by a second prize reserved for Italian cinema, in order to increase the public’s interest in the most exciting and worthy national works. Trieste “launches” the cinematographic calendar of the new year and it seems to be the ideal place for such a prize that recognises the best films of this past year.
