IMAGINARY MERMAIDS: DIVAS AND CINEMA IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF MARIO MAGAJNA
The vast archive of Mario Magajna (1916-2007) contains about a hun-dred stills taken during the shooting of feature films made on location in Trieste. The exhibition presents some terrific portraits of divas such as Claudia Cardinale, Silvana Mangano and Antonella Lualdi, the “imaginary mermaids” of the title, but also rediscovers film sets built in the city and its environs between 1954 and the early 80s, as well as entire “sequences”, often never previously released, shot during the filming of Senilità by Mauro Bolognini (1962) and Veljko Bulajić and the actors of Vlak bez voznog reda (1959) heading to Cannes.

X-RAY AUDIO EXHIBITION

The exhibition draws out the hidden aesthetic of underground Russian cultural objects and raises them to the level of high cultural artefacts. It evokes the era and circumstances in which they were created and tells a story where music, forbidden culture, recycling, cold war politics and human endeavour intersect. In a culture where the recording industry was ruthlessly controlled by the State, music lovers discovered an extraordinary alternative means of reproduction: they repurposed used x-ray film as the base for records of forbidden songs.

THE STORY OF D.
A photographic reportage by Diletta Allegra Mazza

The photographer, who lives in Torre del Greco, followed D., who is now 29, and began his transition from female to male in December 2015, which finally led him to achieve the desired balance between his identity and his physical appearance. This is not a photo reportage in the style of a documentary but rather the story of a life and of a family’s love. The underlying idea of this work is that each person should be free to be what he or she wants.

MERMAIDS

An immersion in the watery and dreamlike imaginary world, which Pierri has created in these works on paper. A tribute to the text 'La chioma della sirena (The Mermaid’s Hair)' by Anita Pittoni through an ever-changing and mutating collection of undersea animals.

MERMAIDS, LIGHTHOUSES AND OTHER FRONTIERS. short stories
by Aldo Sbadiglio

12 illustrated short stories like 12 photo poses using a typewriter, hand-pressed ‘carta d’Amalfi’ paper and felt pens. ‘Carta d’Amalfi’ - because of the sea. And for each of four groups of stories, four different typewriters, from four different nations: Italy, Yugoslavia, Germany and the United Kingdom.

QUEER MERMAIDS

La collettiva presenta le sirene ermafrodite e pansessuali di quattro artisti contemporanei, declinate a disegno da Zima Stanco e in fotografia da Nika Furlani, in animazione da Daria Tommasi e in scultura dalla grande Fiore de Henriquez (1921-2004).This collective exhibition presents the hermaphrodite and pansexual mermaids imagined by four contemporary artists using different art forms: Zima Stanco’s drawings; the photographs of Nika Furlani; Daria Tommasi’s animations; and the sculptures of the great Fiore de Henriquez (1921-2004).

ELECTRIC SKY
CIELO ELETTRICO
Solo exhibition by Slovenian Painter Staš Kleindienst

The exhibition presents a selection of ten canvases painted between 2014 and 2015. In his artistic output Staš Kleindienst focuses on social reality and on its drive for change. The Slovenian painter creates canvases in which imagination becomes the key to read a possible future: explosions, colours and irony turn reality upside down to attract our attention and stimulate us towards a more active and creative participation in reality.

A selection of stills shot by artist Luca Andreoni in the Archives of Bologna’s Cineteca Nazionale. The titles of some films, both Italian and international, chosen by the artist, become a series of aphorisms which offer the opportunity for a reading of the works that goes beyond the films themselves.
