Davud returns from war to find everyone in his village has succumbed to a strange illness and has decomposed. His sister, the only survivor, is slowly rotting away herself. Davud is troubled by his memories as a soldier, as he confronts the only true question: is surviving the same as living? Sermon to the Fish premiered in competition at the latest Locarno Film Festival.

Hilal Baydarov
Filmmaker and screenwriter, Hilal Baydarov was born in 1987 in Baku, Azerbaijian. After a Master’s degree in Computer Sciences, he studied directing at the Sarajevo Film Academy under Hungarian director Béla Tarr. The Trieste FF presented in 2020 his documentary Mother and Son, in 2021 Nails in My Brain and In Between Dying, in 2022 Crane Lantern.
