ITALIAN PREMIERE
Summer 2019, Moscow is in grip of opposition protests. Three thousand people were detained. Among them was the young political activist Konstantin Kotov. The daring lawyer Maria Eismont sees that this is a politically motivated accusation, aimed at suppressing young people from being politically active. She becomes Kotov’s representative and lawyer. Despite Maria’s efforts, public outcry and obvious injustice, the court sentences Kotov to four years in prison. In December 2019 during a press conference with Vladimir Putin, a journalist from the opposition channel manages to ask the president about Kotov’s case. This seems to put things into motion and Kotov’s case is sent to the court of appeal. Maria feels torn – her defendant finally has some hope but her lawyer’s work is devalued as the justice was achieved by supreme order.
The Case premiered at IDFA in Amsterdam.
Nina Guseva
Russian film director, actress and producer Nina Guseva was born in 1988. After studying at the Moscow Art Theater School, she graduated from Marina Razbezhkina’ School of Documentary Films in 2019.
