DONNE E LAVORO: LA TRIESTE OPERAIA UNA STORIA AL FEMMINILE
a cura di Marzia Arzon, guida turistica
The programme unfolds in an area symbolic to the reality of Trieste’s working-class: San Giacomo. Stepping back into the history of Trieste, a city of manufacturing and industrial realities, you will be transported through the history of women’s work and emancipation, recounting the stories of Stock, the Salvadori brothers, the Triestian pasta factory, Dreher, Manifattura Tabacchi, Beltrame and Salvador. The narrative journey will take us through the years 1960 to 1970, a period which saw a rapid intake of female workers in the manufacturing industry. A forgotten vision key to Trieste’s growth as a city, one which sought to connect the centre and suburbs and to integrate newer neighbourhoods, those distant from the symbolic city centre Piazza dell’Unità, into a modern perspective.
