A family spends the summer months on a nudist beach. Intimacy and beauty of naked bodies, leaves drawing geometrical shapes on the skin, the water seems relieving from any thought.
Freikörperkultur premiered at the latest Venice International Film Critics’ Week.
“I was interested in the Costa dei Barbari beach, near Trieste, and the people who live there, bare naked, not far from the city. It is a community that spends the summer free of all constraints, in an almost primordial state. In 2020, during the first lockdown, I looked back at the images I had shot on the beach feeling a strong sense of nostalgia for the freedom and intimacy they conveyed. I worked with a writer and actor on a poetic piece in the local dialect, which serves as a counterpoint commentary on the idyllic images of the family in the film, as if the images were a bright reminder of the past. Freikörperkultur is a poetic short film about lost love, about a time in the past when everything was perfect. A time that will never return.” (A. Zari)
