IMMAGINARE IL PATRIARCATO
a cura di / curated by Associazione IoDeposito
The Immaginare il Patriarcato (Imagining the Patriarchate) exhibition, the result of a project of the same name undertaken by the Associazione IoDeposito and financed by the FVG Region, aims to bring the historical period of the Patriarchate of Aquileia back to the centre of the current cultural debate, focusing on its work of identity unification: the Patriarchate represented a fundamental instance for the growth and development of a national and linguistic consciousness of the peoples of our territory, through an evolution characterised by good and bad points in a complex and little-known development.
In addition to the production of two literary works published by B#S Edizioni (Angelo Floramo’s Trasgressioni and Carlo Selan’s Basilica) and the republication of the seventeenth-century epic poem Aquileia Distrutta by Belmonte Cagnoli, the project has involved the participation of international artists who, through the visual, installation and sound media typical of contemporary expression, have opened up new perspectives for research and debate on the subject.
The exhibition presents the works by a number of international artists: the Israeli Dan Allon, who presents an engaging multi-voice installation inspired by the music of the time; the Native American-Hawaiian duo Cannupa Hanska Luger & Ginger Dunnill, who offer a film and sound project merging geography and vocal expressions of the territory; the Filipino Cristian Tablazon, whose short film will have its world premiere on 23 January in the Alpe Adria Cinema Lab space; and Beatrice Achille from Trieste, who has produced a fine sound installation. Their deep interest in political and social issues has led them to accept the challenge of proposing a contemporary reinterpretation of the historical period, fusing it with elements belonging to their own cultures and sensibilities.
Against the backdrop of the visual and audio exhibition Imagining the Patriarchate, we offer a reading with poets Carlo Selan and Beatrice Achille, who present their new literary and installation works “Basilica” and “Mnestica”.
