“Literature is the business of the people” wrote Franz Kafka. In this cinematic transposition of Franz Kafka’s unfinished novel Amerika (Der Verschollene), we follow the young German immigrant Karl Rossman as he discovers the United States of America.

Jean-Marie Straub (1933-2022) and Danièle Huillet (1936-2006) embarked on creating a body of work that has made an impact all over the world: an aesthetic, political and existential crafting, unreconciled and resistant. They established an uncompromisingly austere style since their first film Not Reconciled, followed by some 30 works, including  The Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach, Too Early, Too Late, Class Relations, Antigone and Sicilia!.
