The last hours of 13-year-old Sasha’s life in a boarding school for children deprived of parental care. He is one of the luckiest – a family have finally agreed to adopt him. Today he will move to America forever – but there’s something that won’t let him go.
In competition at the latest Locarno Film Festival.
“This story is absolutely fictional but it is inspired by first-hand observation of life in rehabilitation centres and the study of the psychology of children growing up in difficult life circumstances. We chose the documentary style of filming in order to convey the state of the main character as sensually as possible.” (O. Žurba)
Olha Žurba
Ukrainian film director Olha Žurba was born in 1987. She graduated from Kyiv National “I. Karpenko-Kary” Theatre, Cinema and Television University, specializing as feature documentary director. After its premiere in Locarno Dad’s Sneakers was presented at Leeds IFF and Zagreb FF, among the others.
