Otakar Vávra and František Pilát’s short film represents one of the most explicit encounters between cinema and the historical avant-garde in Czechoslovakia. The film captures the luministic transformations of Zdeněk Pešánek’s kinetic sculpture for the Prague Electric Company, located in the center of the Bohemian metropolis, the outcome of the artist’s plastic research and his encounter with the Devětsil avant-garde group and its theorist Karel Teige.
