ITALIAN PREMIERE

Alongside the banks of a river In Italy’s Gorizia spreads a spontaneous encampment of migrants, the “Jungle”, a place suspended between cultures. Through the eyes of Elisa Menon, a social theater director, we will enter into this community and discover it through a theater performance that draws attention to the present migration in an unusual and empathic way.
The Jungle premiered at the latest Warsaw International Film Festival.

“The documentary deals with the theme of distance: the virtual, linguistic and cultural distance between the young asylum seekers and the rest of the local community, and the physical, material distance that divides them from their places of origin and their families. For this reason, the closing performance of the workshop, which coincides with the final scenes of the documentary, takes place in the ‘Jungle’ itself, becoming an opportunity to witness the meeting and confrontation of two cultures that had never before come together … The narrative style we adopted is straightforward and linear … The result is a film that never turns to protest or outbursts, but tries to show the more human side of its characters.” (C. Cristian Natoli
Italian director, screenwriter and cinematographer Cristian Natoli was born in 1981 in Gorizia. Since 2004 he has been working in film and television with some of the main Italian production companies. Together with Chiara Toffolo, in 2017 he founded the Tesla Production company. The Jungle was one of the selected projects at This Is IT 2020.
