Jan Švankmajer
Renowned scriptwriter, artist and director, Jan Švankmajer was born in 1934 in Prague. Attracted to puppetry and theatre from an early age, his art and cinema are characterised by a surreal and playful vein. His irony and black humour with a philosophical twist caused him problems with censorship during the period of normalisation in the 1970s. His films were presented with great success at major international festivals. In 1992, he founded the production company Athanor.
