Luci e la sua fidanzata, Sorina, stanno per perdere la casa; il padre di Sorina, che avrebbe potuto aiutarli, č morto da anni. Sorina e Luci vanno alla sua tomba, aspettando un segno dal cielo. Nel cimitero si incrociano tre situazioni diverse: una sposa piange su una panchina, una coppia di poliziotti corre velocemente verso un vialetto, una macchina rossa passa lentamente dietro le tombe. Sorina e Luci osservano tutto ciņ in tensione. Quando il segno arriva, č lontano dall'essere mistico: una bottiglia cade dal cielo dritta sulla testa di Luci. Fortunatamente Jerōme, un simpatico francese, gli dą un passaggio in ospedale. Per Sorina, Jerōme rappresenta l'unica possibilitą di migliorare la sua situazione e pensa di andare via con lui immediatamente. Nel tentativo di far tornare indietro Sorina, Luci trova un lavoro: si veste da bottiglia di birra per farne la promozione in un centro commerciale. Qui incontra Mihaela, che č stata piantata sull'altare e ora lavora travestendosi da telefonino. Occident explores a number of different stories of immigration and tells of what lies behind the scenes. The three protagonists of the film influence each other, although not acquainted. Each seems to want to leave Romania, where life offers little. Luci and his girlfriend, Sorina, are about to lose their home; Sorina's father, who could have helped them, has been dead for years. Sorina and Luci visit his tomb, hoping for a sign from above. Three different situations converge at the cemetery: a bride cries on a bench, a pair of policemen run towards a little alleyway, a red car passes slowly behind the tombs. Sorina and Luci see all this in a mood of tense expectation. When the sign arrives, it is far from mystic in nature: a bottle falls from the sky on Luci's head. Luckily, Jerome, a friendly Frenchman, gives him a lift to hospital. For Sorina, Jerome represents the only chance for improving her lot and she plans to leave immediately with him. In an attempt to make Sorina come back, Luci finds a job: he dresses as a bottle of beer to promote the brand of beer in a shopping centre. Here he meets Mihaela, who was ditched at the altar and now works dressed as a mobile phone. The second and third part of the film show the same days lived by the protagonists, but changing the points of view. |
