Dagli anni Settanta fino agli anni Novanta, la Repubblica Federale Tedesca è stata segnata da una lotta di potere, dai risvolti oscuri, fra lo Stato e la RAF (Movimento per la Lotta Armata). Wolfgang Grams e Alfred Herrhausen: erano due uomini di fazione opposta ma con un destino comune, scelti dal regista come simbolo di questa lotta. Attraverso le testimonianze di parenti, amici e colleghi di entrambi, ancora oggi con punti di vista diametralmente opposti, Veiel cerca di far luce su questo periodo buio della storia del paese. Black Box BRD è stato premiato come miglior documentario agli European Film Awards 2001.
Between the end of the '70s and the '90s, the German Federal Republic was marked by a struggle for power between the state and the RAF (Red Army Faction), with many aspects remaining obscure. Wolfgang Grams and Alfred Herrhausen: two men from opposing factions but with a common destiny, have been selected by the director as the symbol of this struggle. Through the testimonials of relatives, friends and colleagues of both, who today still have diametrically opposing views, Veiel tries to throw some light on this dark period of the country's history. Black Box BRD was awarded as Best Documentary at the European Film Awards 2001.
