Lazarev, ex-sergente dell’Armata rossa collabora con i nazisti. Spinto dal desiderio di redenzione, si fa arrestare dai partigiani e chiede di combattere al loro fianco contro i tedeschi. Dovrŕ attraversare prove difficili, cercando di combattere come Petuškov, il comandante patriota sovietico, e Korotkov, capo dei partigiani.
Proverka na dorogach stravolge le regole del film di guerra sovietico classico, soprattutto nella caratterizzazione dei tre personaggi principali: infatti, pur realizzato nel 1971, venne bloccato dalla censura per quindici anni e fatto uscire, dopo molte vicissitudini, solamente nel 1986. Ricevette diversi riconoscimenti, fra cui il Premio della critica a Rotterdam.
Lazarev, a former sergeant in the Red Army, collaborates with the Nazis. Driven by a desire for redemption, he allows himself to be arrested by the partisans and asks to fight at their side against the Germans. He is made to undergo difficult trials, and tries to fight like Petuškov, the patriotic Soviet commander, and like Korotkov, leader of the partisans.
Proverka na dorogach overturns the rules of making classic Soviet war films, above all in the characterisation of the three leading figures. Indeed, although made in 1971, it was stopped by the censors for 15 years and only released after many difficulties in 1986. It received a number of awards, including the Jury Prize at Rotterdam.
