"Ho voluto dedicare un ritratto a Dadamaino, sicuramente perché conosco e amo la sua opera da sempre, ma anche perché sentivo il dovere morale di documentare questa artista... L'arte va sempre fatta con le mani è il sottotitolo che ho scelto: è una frase di Dadamaino, una dichiarazione programmatica, questa della manualità, che non stupisce in un'artista che ha sempre voluto essere considerata artista operaia, non solo per scelta ideologica, ma anche perché l'artista è colui che si rimbocca le maniche e 'fa', che si compromette con la materia per plasmarla con il suo pensiero. Ma Dadamaino è anche leggerezza, ricerca di astrazione attraverso l'immaterialità...'Vorrei disegnare nell'aria' mi ha detto Dadamaino." (Marina Spada)
"I wanted to dedicate a portrait to Dadamaino, partly, of course, because I have always known and loved her work, but also because I felt a moral duty to document this artist... The subtitle I have chosen is Art is always done by hand; this is a phrase from Dadamaino, a declaration of intent. This pronouncement in praise of manual work does not surprise in an artist who has always wanted to be considered a worker artist, not only as an ideological choice, but also because the artist is someone who pulls up his sleeves and 'does', who comes to grips with matter to shape it with his mind. But Dadamaino is also lightness, a striving for abstraction through incorporeity... 'I would like to draw in air', said Dadamaino to me once." (Marina Spada) |
