Il 17 gennaio 1991, Samir ha appena concluso il suo ultimo cortometraggio, Immer und Ewig. Ventiquattro ore dopo si scatena la guerra del Golfo che il Generale Schwarzkopf non esita a definire “just a job”. Samir, davanti alla televisione, scopre “la paura per i miei, la guerra che irrompe nella mia stanza, e le bugie dei media”. Premiato a Cartagine, questo corto è stato realizzato sulla base delle immagini video della guerra, ed è stato inizialmente presentato come videoinstallazione a Sciaffusa nel 1991 (ripresa e adattata successivamente, nel 1999, a Karlsruhe). Il film cerca di riunire nello stesso contesto gli aspetti privati e politici di quella guerra, in cui, ironia suprema, i piloti dei bombardieri hanno utilizzato la stessa tecnologia impiegata da Samir per girare il suo film.
On 17 January 1991, Samir finished his latest short, Immer und Ewig. Twenty-four hours later, the Gulf War, defined by General Schwarzkopf as “just a job” began. Samir, hooked in front of the television set, discovered “fear for those I care for, the war erupting in my room, and the lies of the media”. Awarded a prize at Carthage, this short was made using the video-images from the war, and was initially presented as a video-installation at Schaffhausen in 1991 (and taken up and subsequently adapted in 1999 at Karslruhe). The film attempts to unite the private and political aspects of that war in a single context; a war in which, supreme irony, the pilots of the bombers used the same technology as employed by Samir for making his film. |
