Estate 1846. George Sand riceve nella sua casa di Nonant degli amici artisti. Oltre ad alcuni aristocratici polacchi, arrivano la cantante Pauline Viardot, il pittore Delacroix, gli scrittori Turgenev e Alexandre Dumas figlio e lo scultore Auguste Clésinger. Attorno a George Sand si forma quasi subito un grande circolo decadente dove ciascuno si lascia andare agli eccessi della propria natura. Il clima tende all’esaltazione. Ed esplodono le tensioni. Tra George Sand e sua figlia Solange c’è uno scontro continuo: Solange non smette di provocarla, respinge il pretendente che lei le ha scelto e corteggia invece Chopin, l’amante di sua madre. Chopin, malato, subisce d’altra parte le umiliazioni di George Sand. È una giornata piena di sole ma la malinconia vi si insinua. La morte vaga. Strani fantasmi spuntano dal parco. L’amore si spegne tra George Sand e Chopin: questa giornata sarà l’ultima del loro amore.
Summer 1846. George Sand receives some artist friends at her Nonant home. There are some Polish aristocrats, but also the singer Pauline Viardot, the painter Delacroix, writers Turgenev and Alexandre Dumas fils, as well as the sculptor, Auguste Clésinger. A large decadent circle forms almost immediately around George Sand, in which each person gives free rein to the excesses of his nature. The climate tends towards elation, and tensions explode. Between George Sand and her daughter, Solange, there is a continuous confrontation: Solange does not cease provoking her, rejects the pretender chosen for her and instead woos Chopin, her mother’s lover. Unwell, Chopin also suffers the humiliations of George Sand. It is a sunny day but melancholy sets in. Death is on the prowl. Strange ghosts rise in the park. Love dies between Sand and Chopin: this will be the last day of their love. |
