Vienna, Marc Aurel-Strasse: vediamo in quello che un tempo era il quartiere dei tessitori l'ultimo commerciante di prodotti tessili, il proprietario dell'hotel iraniano e il Café Salzgries con i suoi habitué. Immagini di vita quotidiana di una strada in uno dei quartieri più antichi di Vienna, dall'estate del 1999 alla primavera del 2000. A segnare il trascorrere del tempo non è tanto il cambio delle stagioni, quanto l'atmosfera all'interno del Caffè che riflette il cambiamento politico del paese dopo l'elezione di Haider al governo. Per citare Alfred Polgar, il caffè è "una visione del mondo. Una visione la cui essenza interiore è di evitare di vedere il mondo. Dopo tutto cosa c'è lì fuori da vedere?"
Vienna, Marc Aurel-Strasse: the last seller of textile products in what used to be the weavers' district, the proprietor of the Iranian hotel and the Café Salzgries with its habitués. Images of everyday life in a street of one of Vienna's oldest quarters, between the summer of 1999 and the spring of 2000. Marking the passage of time is not so much the changing of the seasons as the atmosphere within the Café, which reflects the political change following the election of Haider to the government. To quote Alfred Polgar the Café is "a world-view. A view whose innermost essence is to avoid viewing the world. After all, what is there to see there?" |
