Il giovane conte Frankenstein decide di creare un uomo artificiale. Non ci riesce e, dopo un’esplosione al castello, sua zia, la contessa Frankenstein, arriva per porre rimedio al disastro causato dal nipote, che nel frattempo č partito. Nel castello essa scopre non solo rovine, risultato di esperimenti scientifici non riusciti, ma anche molti fantasmi: il genio delle acque, la dama bianca, Igor, servitore maledetto, l’uomo del fuoco, il lupo mannaro, infelice perché vuol bene alla gente, il conte Dracula. Inoltre, trova anche il piccolo Max ‘il lentigginoso’, un orfano fuggito da una compagnia di attori. La contessa decide di educarlo e istruirlo. Con la sua sinceritŕ, la sua spontaneitŕ e la sua intelligenza, il piccolo Max unisce tutti gli abitanti del castello e risolve complicati problemi sentimentali. Alla fine, grazie all’amore, i fantasmi diventano esseri umani.
"Questa coproduzione di sette paesi era particolarmente interessante per me. La richiesta del produttore era che nel film ci fossero dei fantasmi a rappresentare tutte le culture, perché lo sceneggiato televisivo era rivolto ai ragazzi di tutto il mondo. Cosě ci siamo trovati non solo in una Babilonia di linguaggi (perché gli attori sono venuti un po’ da tutto il mondo), ma anche nella Babilonia del mondo infantile." (Juraj Jakubisko)
The young Count Frankenstein decides to create an artificial man. He fails and, following an explosion in the castle, his aunt, Countess Frankenstein, arrives to resolve the disaster caused by her niece. He has in the meantime left the castle. When she arrives, she finds not only ruins, the result of failed scientific experiments, but also many ghosts: the genie of the waters, the white lady, Igor the cursed servant, the man of fire, the werewolf (unhappy because he likes people), Count Dracula Moreover, she also finds little freckly Max, an orphan who has fled a company of actors. The Countess decides to educate and raise him. With his sincerity, spontaneity and intelligence, little Max unites all the inhabitants of the castle and resolves complicated sentimental problems. At the end, thanks to love, the ghosts become humans.
"This co-production by seven countries was especially interesting for me. The producer’s request was for ghosts in the film representing every culture, because the television series was aimed at children throughout the world.
