“Il film parla dell’architetto svizzero Mario Botta e dell’artista Enzo Cucchi. Il primo ha costruito una cappella, il secondo l’ha affrescata con dipinti, fra cui uno che raggiunge i 70 metri di lunghezza. Enzo Cucchi, uno degli esponenti della Transavanguardia italiana, rifiutò la direzione che stava prendendo la pittura negli anni ’70. Nello stesso periodo, Mario Botta si stava muovendo verso una forma di architettura che si allontanava dalle tendenze tradizionali. Negli anni ’80 i due artisti si sono incontrati a Zurigo e hanno deciso di realizzare qualcosa insieme. Dieci anni dopo, il loro sogno è diventato realtà nel sud della Svizzera, nel Canton Ticino, sul Monte Tamaro a 20 chilometri da Lugano e 1600 metri sopra il livello del mare. Entrambi gli artisti hanno il dono di percepire e sentire i propri sentimenti più intimi e di riuscire a esplicitarli in immagini visive chiare. Esistono molte affinità fra il primitivismo dei dipinti di Enzo Cucchi e l’architettura di Mario Botta. La cappella di Botta ricorda la solidità di un rifugio alpino, mentre gli affreschi di Cucchi riflettono la sua visione del Sud, del mare: monti e mare finalmente assieme. Realizzando questo film, di fatto un ‘film in progress’, (girato fra Roma, Ancona, Padula e Lugano), spero di condividere il mio entusiasmo e raccontare la storia delle mie visite alla montagna di Botta in compagnia di Cucchi, ma soprattutto l’armonia che si è venuta a creare fra l’architetto e l’artista, la creazione degli affreschi e di questa ‘cappella a quattro mani’.” (V. “This film is about the Swiss architect Mario Botta, who built a chapel - and the artist Enzo Cucchi, who painted the frescoes in it, one of which is 70 metres long. Enzo Cucchi, one of the Italian "Transavanguardia", refused to accept the direction painting was taking in Italy in the Seventies. At the same time, Mario Botta was also moving towards a form of architecture that differed completely from traditional tendencies. In the Eighties these two artists met in Zurich and decided to create something together. Ten years later their dream became reality in the southern Swiss Canton Ticino, 20 kilometres from Lugano on the Mount Tamaro, 1600 metres above sea level. Both artists are endowed with the gift of being able to perceive and sense their innermost feelings and to create clear visual images of them. There are affinities between the primitivism of Enzo Cucchi''s paintings and Mario Botta''s architecture. Botta''s chapel brings to mind the solidity of a mountain refuge, whilst Cucchi''s frescoes depict his visions of the South, of the sea: the mountains and the sea finally brought together. Making this film, which is a ‘film in progress’, (in Rome, Ancona, Padula and Lugano) I hope to share my enthusiasm and tell the story of my journeys with Cucchi to Botta''s mountain, the harmony of ideas between architect and artist, the creation of the different frescoes in this chapel ‘created by four hands’.” (V.
