Una storia bizzarra, piena di simboli surrealisti, in polemica con Dio e la giustizia. Visioni catastrofiche, la paura e l’orrore del cammino sanguinoso dell’uomo e di tutta la sua Storia. Una comunità di persone, che cerca di sfuggire all’arca rossa del regime totalitario, cerca la salvezza nella creazione di una famiglia fittizia. La bella Rita e il suo compagno Petras, così come il vecchio colonnello e il ragazzo derubato, tutti cercano di creare una comunità al di fuori del mondo reale. Ma la lunga mano della politica e della sua giustizia li raggiunge ugualmente. Solo alla fine del film c’è un bagliore di speranza: caduto il muro attorno all'arca, per i protagonisti si apre un mondo libero.
"Questo film dovrebbe essere inserito nel Guinness dei primati. Ho cominciato a girarlo nel 1968, durante la Primavera di Praga, ma la censura comunista ha interrotto la lavorazione. Ho potuto terminarlo solo 22 anni più tardi! Durante la realizzazione mi rendevo sempre più conto che il film sarebbe risultato inaccettabile per la censura e perciò ho scelto un linguaggio simbolico e allegorico. Ma non sapevo che a decidere sarebbe stata non tanto la censura quanto il potere politico... Nelle sequenze girate nel 1990 mostro la speranza che l’umanità, inebriata dalla gioia della libertà, abbia tratto una lezione da questa esperienza inumana e che la ricorderà a lungo. Forse, alla fine ciascuno avrà la possibilità di essere più generoso e più attento nei confronti dei più piccoli e dei più deboli." (Juraj Jakubisko)
A bizarre story full of surreal symbolism, raising cudgels with God and justice. Catastrophic visions, fear and horror at the bloody evolution of mankind and his history. A community of people, seeking to flee the red ark of the totalitarian regime, seeks salvation in the creation of a fictional family. The beautiful Rita and her boyfriend, Petras, the old colonel and robbed youth all try to form a community outside the real world. But the long hand of politics and its justice reaches them anyway. Only at the end of the film is there a ray of hope: with the fall of the wall around the ark, a free world opens up for the protagonists.
"This film should be included in the Guinness Book of Records. I began filming it in 1968, during the Prague Spring, but the communist censorship stopped the production. I was only to finish it 22 years later! During its production, I increasingly realised that the film would be unacceptable for the censors so I chose a symbolic, allegorical language. But I didn’t know that it would not be the censors to decide, so much as the political powers. In the sequences filmed in 1990, I show the hope that mankind, inebriated by the joy of freedom, had learned a lesson from this inhuman experience and that it will remember it for a long time. Perhaps in the end everyone will be able to be more generous and more attentive to those who are young and weak." (Juraj Jakubisko) |
