Una famiglia sta passando un brutto periodo: il capofamiglia è morto da sei mesi e le sue ceneri sono ancora conservate in un'urna a casa della nonna. Ognuno di loro è pieno di problemi: la mamma si sente inutile e piomba sempre in casa delle figlie a proporre il suo aiuto. Zuzana, la figlia più giovane, sta lasciando il marito per un pittore di quadri astratti; sua sorella Ilona è incinta: già madre di un bimbo molto vivace, si sente trascurata dal marito. La nonna ha un sogno: visitare il suo paese d'origine in Slovacchia, almeno una volta ancora prima di morire. Ed è probabilmente per questo che si rifiuta di seppellire le ceneri del suo amato figlio nella piccola cittadina ceca dove vivono, ma continua a ripetere che l'ultimo desiderio del figlio era di essere seppellito in Slovacchia, la terra natale. L'intera famiglia decide di partire per il lungo viaggio con le ceneri del caro estinto. Il viaggio che tutti credevano sarebbe stato noioso si trasforma invece in un evento che cambierà la loro vita. Premio FIPRESCI e Miglior sceneggiatura alla scorsa edizione del Festival di Thessaloniki.
A family is going through a bad period: the head of the family died six months ago and his ashes are still kept in an urn in the grandmother's house. Everyone is full of problems: the mother feels useless and descends upon her daughters' homes to offer help. Zuzanna, the younger daughter, is leaving her husband for a painter of abstract works; her sister, Ilona, is pregnant; already the mother of an extremely lively child, she feels neglected by her husband. The grandmother has a dream: to visit her native village in Slovakia at least once more before dying. And this is probably why she refuses to bury the ashes of her beloved son in the little Czech town where they live, but constantly repeats that her son's dying wish was to be buried in Slovakia, the home country. The entire family decides to leave on the long journey with the ashes of their relative. The voyage, which they all thought would be tedious, instead turns out to be an event that changes their lives.
