Karesz, cresciuto in un orfanotrofio, fa parte di una gang di ragazzi di strada. Un giorno seguendo una ragazza, Zsófi, capita per caso in una sala da ballo e viene conquistato da un’atmosfera unica, sprigionata dalle musica e dalle danze. Lě incontra Gráci, immigrato, lavoratore in nero, che riesce a dimenticare le difficoltŕ di vivere in una grande cittŕ ostile solo quando č nella sala da ballo e suona la musica tradizionale del suo paese, l’ex Jugoslavia. Karesz per attirare l’attenzione di Zsófi, impara poco a poco a ballare e a suonare la batteria. E proprio grazie alla sala da ballo, a Karesz si presenta l’occasione di cambiare vita...
“Táncház” (letteralmente “sala da ballo”) era il nome originale dato ai luoghi dove si incontravano i giovani dei villaggi della Transilvania, per ricorrenze particolari o per i matrimoni, ma anche semplicemente per stare assieme. Erano sale da ballo dove i giovani imparavano sia le danze tipiche dei propri villaggi che quelle appartenenti ad altre tradizioni etniche. Ancora oggi questa continua ad essere una forma popolare di intrattenimento di massa. Nel film compaiono le piů famose band folk ungheresi. Il flm č stato presentato lo scorso anno al Festival di Berlino, nella sezione Panorama.
Karesz, who has grown up in an orphanage, is a member of a street gang. One day, following a girl, Zsófi, he ends up by chance in a dance hall and is bowled over by a unique atmosphere created by the music and dance. There, he meets Gráci, an immigrant and worker in the black market, who only manages to forget the difficulties of living in a large, hostile city when he is in the dance hall and playing the traditional music of his country, the former Yugoslavia. In order to draw the attention of Zsófi, Karesz learns little by little to dance and play the drums. And thanks to the dance hall, Karesz has the opportunity to change his life…
“Táncház” (literally “dance hall”) was the original name given to places where young people from Transylvanian villages would meet for special events or weddings, but also quite simply to get together. These were dance halls in which the young would learn both the typical dances of their villages and those belonging to other ethnic traditions. Even today, this continues to be a popular form of mass entertainment. The most famous Hungarian folk bands appear in the film, which was presented last year in the Panorama section at the Berlin Film Festival. |
