Marat fa l'autista privato ad Alma Ata per un celebre matematico. Ha un incidente insignificante, mentre sta portando a casa la moglie che ha appena partorito, con la Mercedes di un uomo deciso a farsi risarcire fino all'ultimo. Risarcire, vuol dire pagare in dollari. Nel frattempo perde anche il lavoro, perché il matematico si uccide dopo la chiusura del suo istituto ed è incapace di accettare la realtà del Kazakistan dei nostri giorni. Per far fronte ai danni, Marat accetta un prestito da un boss mafioso. Da quel momento Marat subisce quotidianamente violenze, umiliazioni e la situazione gli sfugge totalmente di mano, finché è costretto a prendere in considerazione una specie di "contratto": l'estinzione del debito in cambio dell'uccisione di un giornalista scomodo…
Marat is the private chauffeur for a noted mathematician in Alma-Ata. While taking hime his wife after she has given birth, he causes a trifling accident with a large Mercedes, whose owner wants to be compensated in full. Compensation means paying in dollars. In the meantime, Marat loses his job, because the professor kills himself following the closure of his institute and because incapable of accepting the reality of the new Kazakhstan. To pay for the damage, Marat borrows money from a mafioso boss. From that day, he suffers violence and humiliation on a daily basis and the situation slips out of his control, until he is forced to take into consideration a sort of "contract": the cancellation of the debt in return for killing an awkward journalist… |
