Siamo a Berlino, in una casa a ridosso del Muro che divide la città. Marc, dopo un lungo giro d’affari, ritrova la moglie Anna sempre più strana e svogliata. Scopre così che ha un amante, Heinrich, ma non si tratta del classico triangolo sentimentale: la donna sta vivendo una sua allucinata follia e si è creata una vita segreta dalla quale esclude con l’omicidio chiunque voglia penetrarvi. Anna inganna sia Marc che l’amante, recandosi in un appartamento dove ha incontri e amplessi con un mostro gelatinoso e tentacolare da cui è totalmente dominata. È la lenta trasformazione di un incubo, un’ossessione che si materializza.
Premio come miglior attrice a Cannes, nel 1981, a Isabelle Adjani. Gran Premio al Festival del Film di Fantascienza di Trieste, edizione 1981.
We are in Berlin, in a house in the lee of the Wall dividing the city. After a long business trip, Marc finds his wife ever stranger and listless. He discovers she has a lover, but it is not a matter of the classic love-triangle: the woman is living in hallucinatory madness, creating a secret life for herself from which she excludes anyone who wishes to penetrate it by murdering them. Anna deceives both Marc and the lover by retreating to an apartment where she has meetings and embraces with a gelatinous, tentacular monster which dominates her totally. This is the slow transformation of a nightmare, an obsession that takes material form.
