Solidarność, Solidarność… è stato realizzato per commemorare il 25° anniversario della nascita del sindacato omonimo. Il progetto nasce da un’idea di Andrzej Wajda, autore al tempo del famoso L’uomo di ferro, il quale ha suggerito che un tema così importante meritasse di essere sviluppato non da un solo regista, ma piuttosto da un gruppo di registi polacchi. 13 registi di generazioni diverse - da quelli che hanno vissuto in prima persona quel periodo ai più giovani, quelli per cui Solidarnosc è divenuto ormai un episodio storico - hanno accolto l’invito di Wajda e unito le loro forze per ricordare nel modo a loro più congeniale gli eventi dell’agosto 1980. Ogni regista ha contribuito al progetto con un cortometraggio di dieci minuti, in piena libertà di scelta del contenuto e della forma. L’intento comune è stato quello di mostrare il fenomeno Solidarnosc che riuscì, superando tutte le divisioni sociali, in un’impresa irripetibile: riunire 10 milioni di Polacchi in un’unico movimento. Ecco perché l’intento comune a tutti coloro che hanno aderito al progetto sembra quello di voler rispondere alla domanda: “Cosa significa oggi per me Solidarnosc?”.

Solidarność, Solidarność… is being made in order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the birth of the union. The project arises from an Andrzej Wajda’s idea. Wajda, who realized at that time the well-known feature film Man of Iron, suggested that such a project should not be made by one director, but rather be the collective work of Polish filmmakers. 13 Polish filmmakers of all generations - including these for whom was a personal historical experience and the youngest ones, for whom it is no more than a piece of history - welcomed Wajda’s proposal. They joined their forces and decided to memorialize the events of August 1980 expressing their own attitudes toward the subject. Each of the directors has shoot a 10-minute-long short film: they were given complete freedom to choose the content as welle as the form of artistic expression for their work. Their common aim is to show the phenomenon of Solidarity, which, above all social divisions, could accomplish the impossible by today’s standards: to unite 10 million Poles in a unique way. The main idea, common to all parts of the project, seems to answer the question “What does Solidarity mean to me today?”.
