Lena, donna apparentemente solitaria e riservata, vive con un marito tiranno, Johannes, che è il pastore del villaggio e lei la sua fedele e servile moglie. La quotidianità di Lena è caratterizzata da una logorante monotonia, una vita passata fra il fare l'infermiera, suonare l'organo in chiesa e svolgere i doveri del letto coniugale. Il misterioso assassinio di una ragazza del villaggio sveglia gli abitanti dal loro consueto torpore. È proprio in questa occasione che Lena conosce Paul, il meccanico del villaggio. Questo incontro è l'inizio di una emancipazione che la porta a non rivelare il segreto di Paul riguardo all'assassinio della ragazza, per paura di perdere quel po' di felicità appena conquistata. Deve rimanere in silenzio, così come ha fatto nei molti anni di matrimonio. Ed è allora che Lena, per amore, si trasforma in un angelo nero.
Lena, an apparently solitary, reserved woman, lives with a tyrannical husband, Johannes, the village pastor, as his faithful, servile wife. Lena's daily life is characterised by crushing monotony, a life spent at working as a nurse, playing the organ in church and fulfilling her marital duties in bed. The mysterious murder of a girl in the village awakens its inhabitants from their accustomed torpor. And it is following this event that Lena meets Paul, the village mechanic. This meeting is the beginning of an emancipation that leads her to conceal Paul's secret concerning the murder of the girl for fear of losing that little bit of happiness she has just attained. She must keep silent again, just as she has in many years of marriage. And this is when Lena, for love, changes into a dark angel. |
