Un documentario su un vecchio signore e il suo gatto che vivono alla periferia di Mosca: l’uomo ha 80 anni e ha perso la vista. Vive in un piccolo appartamento con un gatto bianco. L’uomo vuole fare qualcosa di utile e passa le sue giornate realizzando delle borse di lana. Il gatto mette in disordine il lavoro dell’uomo e ogni giorno è una continua battaglia fra i due. Ma il gatto - oltre a essere un ‘nemico’ - è anche il suo unico amico. L’uomo ascolta dalla finestra i rumori delle strade di Mosca e racconta al gatto cosa sta succedendo. Il vecchio esce, va per strada cercando di vendere le borse ma poi alla fine tenta anche di regalarle. Nessuno le vuole, perché tutti hanno delle borse di plastica.
Il film è una sorta di sinfonia della vita di tutti i giorni in un quartiere, stile sovietico, alla periferia di Mosca: è lento come lo è la vita del vecchio cieco. Simbolicamente il cieco rappresenta ancora la tradizione della vecchia Russia, mentre il mondo che c’è fuori rappresenta il ‘nuovo’, che è però inutile per il vecchio... una metafora della Russia che cambia.
A documentary film about an old blind man and his cat in the suburbs of Moscow: he is 80 years old and he has lost his sight. He lives in a small flat with a white cat. The man wants to do something useful and he spends his days making woollen bags. The cat messes up his work and everyday is a continuous battle between the two of them. But the cat besides being an enemy is also his only friend. The blind man listens through the window to the sounds of the Moscow streets and explains to the cat what is going on. He also goes out on to the streets - trying first to sell the bags and then to give them away for free. Nobody wants them - because everyone is carrying plastic bags.
The film is a symphony of an everyday in a Soviet style suburb of Moscow. It is slow like blind man''s days are. Symbolically the blind man represents something old and traditional in Russia, and the outside world represents something modern which doesn’t have any use for the old blind man. Thus the film is also a metaphor for Russia in change. |
