Kreuzberg è un quartiere di Berlino dove vivono decine di migliaia di stranieri, la maggior parte di loro di origine turca. Erol, Ahmed e Leyla vivono con i genitori: il padre è turco, la madre è tedesca.
Erol ha fatto la sua scelta: lui si sente turco, vuole essere turco. Ma questa sembra essere la sua unica convinzione e certezza. Ha vent'anni, ha abbandonato la scuola da anni. È molto depresso. Tira avanti con qualche piccolo traffico ma vuole dare una svolta alla sua vita. Il fratello Ahmed invece sta per finire il liceo: i problemi del fratello gli sono estranei. Ahmed si sente un normale cittadino tedesco cresciuto in una grande città. Leyla, la più giovane, fa l'apprendista e sogna di andare a vivere con la migliore amica Sevim, per sfuggire alle restrizioni impostale dalla famiglia e specialmente dal padre. Erol, cittadino turco, riceve la cartolina per fare il servizio militare in un paese che appena conosce. È la svolta che aspetta. Il padre è orgoglioso di lui e incoraggia la sua scelta. La madre e i fratelli cercano di dissuaderlo…
Kreuzberg is a Berlin quarter that is home to tens of thousands of foreigners, most of these are of Turkish origin. Erol, Ahmed and Leyla live with their parents: the father is Turkish, the mother German.
Erol has taken a firm decision: he feels Turkish, and wants to be Turkish. But this seems to be the only thing he is sure and certain about. He is 20 years old and left school years ago. He is very depressed. He earns a little cash with a few odd jobs but wants to change his life. His brother, Ahmed, on the other hand, is about to finish school: the problems of his brother are far removed from his own existence. He feels himself as a normal German citizen who has grown up in a large city. Leyla, the youngest, is serving an apprenticeship and dreams of going to live with her best friend, Sevim, to escape from the restrictions imposed by her family and by her father in particular. Erol, a Turkish citizen, receives his call-up papers for military service in a country he barely knows. This is the change he has been waiting for. His father is proud of him and encourages him in his decision. His mother, brother and sister cannot dissuade him… |
