La storia è ambientata nel periodo immediatamente successivo all’entrata delle truppe Nato in Kosovo e alla firma dell’accordo con l’esercito serbo. Sentendo alla radio che la guerra è finita, le guardie serbe di una clinica psichiatrica lasciano il proprio posto e si danno alla fuga, seguite dall’intero staff. I pazienti vengono così lasciati soli, senza alcun controllo. Pur avendo dei problemi psichiatrici, queste persone seguono una loro filosofia di vita e hanno, come tutti, desideri e sogni. La libertà improvvisa viene vista da loro come una possibilità di realizzare quei sogni. Fra di essi ci sono anche Kukumi, Mara e Hasan. Lasciano l’istituto con gli altri, ma poi se ne separano, per cercare di integrarsi meglio nel nuovo ambiente. Ben presto, però, sono costretti a confrontarsi con la realtà e con la gente ‘normale’. Gli ostacoli da superare sono troppi e la libertà si rivela diversa da come se l’erano immaginata…
The story takes place immediately after NATO troops enter Kosovo, signing a military agreement with Serbs. Hearing the news on the radio that the war has ended, the Serbian guards and all the staff of a local mental asylum leave their posts and flee. The patients are left alone without any supervision. Although retarded, they follow a special philosophy of life, and have both wishes and dreams. The sudden freedom is seen a chance for those dreams to come true. Among them there are Kukumi, Mara and Hasan. They too leave the asylum and get separated from the others, trying to integrate into the new environment. Soon they get confronted with the reality and with the ‘normal’ people. There are a lot of obstacles, freedom is not what they imagined it to be... |
