“Sophie comunica a Valerie la sua partenza per Roma, dove andrà a lavorare. Si potrebbe dire che il film racconta quello che accade mentre lei si trova a Roma: Valerie si innamora, Marie e Alexander vanno in vacanza, Maria si sposa, il padre di Valerie muore, Marie è di nuovo incinta, e così via. Di alcuni di questi avvenimenti, lo spettatore coglie solo qualche accenno in una conversazione, di altri intravvede qualche piccolo frammento visivo. Rimane sempre qualcosa fuori dall’inquadratura, qualcosa che non si può vedere, ma solo intuire da un riflesso, da un suono, da qualche parola, dalle note di una musica che viene da chissà dove. Ma miracolosamente, tutti i frammenti si riuniscono e formano un tutto unico. Attorno a Valerie, Alexander e Marie c’è qualcos’altro: il mondo reale.” (Ludger Blanke)
“Right at the start, Sophie tells Valerie she will go to Rome to work there. So you could say the film is about what happened while Sophie was in Rome, the meantime: Valerie will fall in love, Marie and Alexander will go on holiday, Maria will get married, Valerie’s father will die, Marie will become pregnant again, and so on. Some of these events we only hear about in a conversation, of others we only see a small fragment. There is always something outside the frame, something we cannot see, which we can only sense in a reflection, or a sound, or maybe even line of dialogue or a few bars of music whose source is unknown to us. But miraculously, all these fragments join together and form a whole. Surrounding Valerie, Thomas, Alexander and Marie, there is something else: a real world.” (Ludger Blanke) |
