Nabil ritorna a Beirut dopo la morte del padre, avvenuta in Francia, dove l’uomo si trovava per cure mediche. Il padre aveva disposto che le sue ceneri venissero disperse in mare: ma in Libano, dove l’intero sistema sociale è regolato da leggi religiose, la cremazione non è permessa. Mentre Nabil cerca di rispettare l’ultimo desiderio del padre, la famiglia è costretta a mettere in scena un funerale fittizio, per salvare le apparenze.
Nabil returns to Beirut following the death of his father in France, where he had gone for medical treatment. The father wrote in his will that his ashes were to be scattered at sea. But in Lebanon, with the entire social system regulated by religious laws, cremation is not allowed. Whilst Nabil seeks to respect the last wish of his father, the family is obliged to stage a fake funeral to maintain appearances. |
