Ogni martedì e sabato, nel centro della piccola città di Vevey, si tiene uno dei più bei mercati della Svizzera. Venditori di frutta e verdura, funghicoltori, pescatori e fiorai vendono i prodotti del loro sforzo e della loro passione messi a dura prova dal mercato globale.
"Mi ricordo il mercatino della mia infanzia, a Payerne, nella campagna del cantone di Vaud, un mercatino dove i contadini della regione venivano a vendere un po' di verdura e qualche uovo. Oggi, dopo varie peregrinazioni tra i supermercati, il mio mercato
preferito è quello di Vevey. Ogni giorno, durante un intero anno, ho seguito il lavoro e gli svaghi di una "pescatrice"...di un italiano che raccoglie funghi e che è morto durante le riprese....di un orticoltore...di una donna di 91 anni che ogni sabato arriva al mercato con il figlio di 61....di una donna del Camerun che vende i frutti del suo villaggio nativo...". Each Tuesday and Saturday, in the centre of the little town of Vevey, there is one of the finest markets in Switzerland. Vendors of fruit and vegetables, mushroom growers, fishmongers and florists sell the products they produce with love and which are heavily beset by the global market.
"I remember the market when I was a little child, at Payerne, in the countryside in the Vaud canton; it was a little market to which the country folk of the region would come, bringing a few vegetables and the odd egg or two. Today, after some roaming amongst supermarkets, my favourite market is that of Vevey. Every day, during the entire year, I followed the work and pastimes of a "fisherwoman"… of an Italian who used to gather mushrooms and dies during filming… of a market gardener… of a 91-year-old woman who every Saturday would arrive at market with her 61-year-old son… of a woman from Cameroon who sells the fruit of her native village…" (Jacqueline Veuve) |
