Bulcsú, uno strano ragazzo di vent’anni, č uno dei piů odiati controllori della metropolitana di Budapest. La gente lo tormenta per il lavoro che fa, mentre a lui invece piace: č un buon modo, quello di stare ‘sottoterra’, per scappare dalla vita reale e da se stesso. In questo mondo sotterraneo č guerra aperta fra Bulcsú e i suoi colleghi da una parte e i passeggeri che non pagano dall’altra. Ognuna delle due fazioni ha poi i suoi ‘pazzi’, e i suoi personaggi stravaganti. La terza fazione in questa ‘guerra’ č la direzione dell’azienda, che i controllori chiamano con affetto Gestapo. Dopo una serie di omicidi commessi in metropolitana, ognuno č ossessionato dall’idea di trovare il fanatico assassino... Cupo e lirico al tempo stesso, č un misto di favola e realtŕ dove la metropolitana di Budapest č lo sfondo, il set della storia.

Bulcsú, a strange young man aged 20, is one of the much-hated ticket inspectors on the Budapest metro system. People bait him about his work, but he loves his job. It could well be that going underground is his way of escaping from life and from himself. In this world beneath the city, the situation is one of open warfare between Bulcsú and his colleagues on one side, and non-paying passengers on the other. Either faction has its own fair share of psychopats and oddballs. The third party in the conflict is the management of the company which the ticket inspectors affectionately term the "Gestapo". After a number of murders are perpetrated in the metro, everybody becomes obsessed with finding the hooked killer... Dark and lyrical, this film is a special mixture of tale and reality where the Budapest subway provides the setting for this story.
Attracting over a half a million viewers, the directing debut of Nimród Antal was Hungary’s most successful film at the box office in 2003-4. Kontroll is the hungarian nominee for the Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. |
