Nove donne di Arslankoy, villaggio montano della Turchia meridionale, trascorrono la loro giornata fra il duro lavoro dei campi e le faccende domestiche. Per alleggerire il peso della loro quotidianità, decidono allora di riunirsi: vogliono scrivere e mettere in scena una pièce teatrale basata sulla loro vita. Si riuniscono nella scuola del paese, dove raccontano le proprie esperienze di vita a Mr. Huseyin, il preside, che le trascrive e trasforma il tutto in un testo teatrale. Nasce così Il grido di protesta delle donne! e il teatro, vissuto all’inizio come un semplice hobby, diventa “una questione di vita o di morte”, che fa riscoprire alle donne il rispetto per se stesse e ne fa nascere uno nuovo nei loro mariti. Il documentario segue proprio questo processo di sviluppo del testo e mostra il cambiamento che ha provocato nella vita delle nove donne.
Nine women living in Arslankoy, a mountain village in southern Turkey spend their days working hard in the fields and at home. To lighten the burden of life, these women come together for a wholly different reason. They intend to write and perform a play based on their own life stories. They gather at the local high school, and they work with the principal, Mr. Huseyin. They tell to him their life stories that he will write down in a text. In this way The Outcry of Women! arises. At first experienced as a hobby, the theatre becomes “a question of life or death”, which brings them self-respect, respect on behalf of their husband. This documentary is about the development process of this play and the change the women went through during this period.
