Nansal ha 6 anni ed è la figlia maggiore di una famiglia di nomadi della Mongolia. Un giorno, mentre sta giocando nei campi trova un cagnolino. Quando però la piccola porta il cane a casa, suo padre per paura che possa portare sfortuna, impone a Nansal di portalo subito via. Disubbidendo a suo padre, Nansal tiene il cagnolino. Quando la famiglia si sposta in un altro campo, il padre lascia il cucciolo legato a un palo. Solo quando il cane salva il fratellino più piccolo di Nansal da uno stormo d’avvoltoi, viene finalmente accettato dal padre della bambina. Die höhle des gelben hundes racconta il rapporto fra uomo e cane, un legame speciale che si ripete da secoli in Mongolia, nel ciclo eterno della reincarnazione.
Nansal (6-year-old), the oldest daughter of a Mongolian nomad family, finds a small dog one day while out in the fields. When she brings him home, her father is afraid he could bring bad luck and demands that she immediately get rid of him. Despite her father''s orders, she keeps the puppy and tries to hide him from her sceptical father. When the family uproots to move to another camp, the father leaves the puppy behind, tied up to a post. Only when the dog proves himself to the father by protecting the family''s baby boy from a flock of threatening vultures does the father accept him and welcome him into their family.
Die höhle des gelben hundes tells the story of the age-old bond between man and dog, a bond which experiences a new twist through the eternal cycle of reincarnation in Mongolia.
