Dina di 8 e Sveta di 13 anni, sono due sorellastre che vivono in posti diversi, non si frequentano, anzi si detestano. La più piccola sta in famiglia, con la mamma e con il suo nuovo marito: un po' viziata, vive in un ambiente agiato, ha i vestiti più alla moda e passa le sue giornata fra una lezione di musica e lo shopping. La grande invece è stata lasciata dalla nonna, che vive in difficoltà economiche: la interessano i fucili e il suo sogno è quello di andare a fare il cecchino in Cecenia. Improvvisamente la vita di Dina cambia: il padre è un piccolo gangster in difficoltà, la famiglia è in pericolo. La bimba allora trova rifugio presso la sorellastra e per salvarsi scappano assieme dalla città. La fuga improvvisa cambia però il loro rapporto, le avvicina sempre di più... Girato a San Pietroburgo, il film è stato presentato all'ultima Mostra del Cinema di Venezia nella sezione competitiva "Cinema del Presente".

Dina is eight and has a half-sister, Sveta, who is thirteen and lives in a different town. They hardly ever meet; in fact they hate each other. Dina lives with her well-to-do family, her mother and her new husband, and is rather spoilt, wearing the latest fashion and spending her days between music lessons and shopping. In contrast, Sveta has been abandoned by her grandmother, who is in dire financial straights. She is keen on guns and would love to be a sniper in Cechnya.
Suddenly, Dina's life changes. Her father is a small-time gangster in trouble and the family is in danger. The little girl finds shelter with her half-sister and they decide to run away to safety together. Thrown together, their relationship begins to change and they grow closer...Shot in St Petersburg, the film was shown at the latest Venice Film Festival in the "Cinema of the Present" competition section. |
