Trieste e
il mare, raccontati dallo scrittore Mauro Covacich sono il tema
attorno a cui ruota il film Il mare in una stanza. Lo scrittore,
nato a Trieste e oggi residente a Roma, percorre la sua città natale
mantenendo al centro del film il tema del mare. Trieste, città di
confine, città mitteleuropea, città di letterature e soprattutto
città di mare viene rivisitata dallo scrittore attraverso una serie
di percorsi geografici e personali. Piazza dell’Unità, forse l’unica
Piazza al mondo che ‘si affaccia sul mare’, le Rive e i Palazzi
asburgici, Barcola, una linea di cemento, trampolino su cui i
triestini ogni giorno e in ogni stagione prendono il sole e fanno il
bagno, gli stabilimenti balneari Ausonia, il castello di Miramare,
le strade e le piazze dove passeggiavano i grandi della letteratura
del secolo scorso come Umberto Saba, Italo Svevo e James Joyce. Un
film che testimonia come oggi la città di Trieste, pur conservando
l’eredità asburgica, sia anche una città moderna in cui ‘Sissi non è
più Romy Schneider ma una ragazza dei nostri giorni, una ragazza,
tatuata e col piercing’. Soprattutto una città in cui il mare è
parte importante della quotidianità, un elemento sempre presente
nella vita degli abitanti di Trieste, un lato della stanza, visibile
o invisibile. Il mare, ‘che sai sempre dov’è anche se non lo vedi’.

la più forte suggestione che lo scrittore Mauro Covacich ci ha

Trieste and the sea, narrated by writer Mauro Covacich is the theme
around which the film Il mare in una stanza revolves. The writer,
who was born in Trieste and now living in Rome, strolls around his
hometown focussing on the theme of the sea. Trieste, a border town
of central European literature and above all a seaside city is
revisited by the writer through a series of geographical and
personal paths. Piazza dell'Unità, perhaps the only square in the
world ‘overlooking the sea’, and the Rive, the Hapsburg’s Palaces,
Barcola, a line of cement, a trampoline on which the Trieste
inhabitants every day and in every season lie in the sun and have a
bath, the bathing establishments Ausonia, the Miramare castle, the
streets and the squares where the great men of letters of the last
century strolled, such as Umberto Saba, Italo Svevo and James Joyce.
A film that shows how today the city of Trieste, while retaining the
Habsburg heritage, is also a modern city where 'Sissi is no longer
Romy Schneider but a girl of our days, a girl tattooed with a
piercing’. Above all, a city where the sea is an important part of
everyday life, an element which is present in the life of the
inhabitants of Trieste, one side of the room, visible or invisible.
The sea, ‘you know always where it is even when you do not see it’.
