The Corso Salani award, created in memory of the writer, screenwriter and actor who passed away in June 2010, now in its 5th edition, is changing. The Corso Salani Association and the Trieste Film Festival, the event that has been home to the prize since its conception, have decided to modify the regulations. The prize, previously limited to lower-budget works in mid-production, will be given to an Italian feature-length film, fictional or documentary, completed between the 1st January and 30th November 2014. The films that will be considered for the award should be independent productions that, whilst perhaps having had showings at national/international festivals, have not been distributed in the Italian commercial and non-commercial circuits by the time of the Trieste Film Festival in January 2015, and should also be without an international distributor. The members of the Association will be able to nominate films, up until the aforementioned deadline, that they consider deserving of participation, whilst the Trieste Film Festival will assess the suitability of each title according to the outlined regulations. The chosen works will be viewed by a panel of experts, specified by the Association, who will designate 5 finalists to be presented as the section of the Trieste Film Festival, ITALIAN SCREENINGS. A 3 person jury, chosen by the Salani Association and the Trieste Film Festival, will award the 2000 euro prize (made available by the Association), intended to contribute to the distribution of the film, be it in Italy or further afield. Additionally the international scope of the production will be increased, as it will be presented by the Trieste Film Festival to international professionals participating in “When East Meets West”, a co-production forum organized by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, together with the Trieste Film Festival, in collaboration with EAVE, Antenna MEDIA Turin, Maia Workshops, Eurimages and with the backing of MEDIA Programme, Direzione Generale per il Cinema – MiBAC, CEI (Central European Initiative), Autonomous Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. When East Meets West arranges the yearly meeting of professionals coming from Eastern and Western Europe and the guests of honour for 2015 will be England, Ireland and North America.
