INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS COMPETITION: a selection of short feature films produced in Central and Eastern Europe, with a special attention on film schools, running for the TFF Shorts Award.

ANIMATION PROGRAMME: an overview on the best animated film productions from Central and Eastern European countries.

WHEN EAST MEETS WEST: The main goal of the co-production forum is to create a bridge and facilitate long term exchanges between East and West. Organised in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Regional Fund the 6th edition of the industry event will bring together more than 300 film professionals from Eastern Europe, Italy and one selected Western region (a different one every year).The 2016 edition wishes to encourage and build up new connections with Spain, Portugal and Latin America. WEMW is a platform where film professionals (festival and funds representatives, sales agents, commissioning editors, buyers, producers) from both regions can have the unique opportunity to meet the “right” potential partners in a practical and focused way. After only 5 years WEMW has become one of the leading co-production forums in Europe and has offered to more than 1.300 film professionals the opportunity to develop new strategic industry connections, make successful films and distribute them all over Europe.

ITALIAN SCREENINGS: the initiative aims to promote independent Italian feature films, both fiction and documentary, seeking international distribution. The best film of this section will be awarded the Corso Salani Prize.

TRIESTE FF ART & SOUND: a showcase dedicated to contaminations between cinema and contemporary art, with a focus also on music documentaries. In collaboration with Sky Arte.

GENRE SURPRISES: a section devoted to popular cinema from Central and Eastern Europe and to those filmmakers who skilfully blend genre elements in their arthouse and at the same time popular films.

BORN IN TRIESTE: the best of “When East Meets West”: a new showcase displaying recent films whose international career started in Trieste during their pitching at the “When East Meets West” meetings, where all these films found either a co-producer or a sales agent.

POLISH FOCUS: The double life of Polish Cinema. The two souls of Polish cinema, among moral and existential dilemmas and a critical look on contemporary Polish society. A special homage to Krzysztof Kieślowski in the twentieth anniversary of his death, a retrospective dedicated to documentary film director Marcin Koszałka and a wide selection of recent feature films and documentaries.

NEW ROMANIAN CINEMA, between fairy tale and reality: a tribute to one of the most meaningful film productions in Europe, a prominent and successful nouvelle vague which established itself more than 15 years ago.

LUX PRIZE 2015: a section showing the best films competing for the European Lux Prize 2015. In collaboration with the European Parliament.

EASTWEEK: the festival ‘talent campus’, an international workshop dedicated to the development of screenplays, addressed to Eastern European Film Schools students and young graduates.
