The parallel stories of Moka, a young artisan of Moroccan origins, and Achille, an old fortune-teller, once a celebrity on regional TVs. In the depths of a foundry, Moka, inspired in a dream by the words of Empedocles, studies and experiments with the secrets of metals transformation. Then there is Achille, who has just finished a long period in prison and is returning to normal life, motivated and eager to become a part of society again.
Divinazioni premiered at the latest IDFA in Amsterdam and at the Festival dei Popoli in Florence.

“Originally, I was looking for a story that would allow me to tell a new point of view on the sacred magic in southern Italy today. But to tell it I needed to start from the past, as if I wanted to trace a circle that connected Magna Graecia to today’s Sicily. I also wanted the core of the story to unfold in the city, to find out how the remains of ancestral knowledge had dispersed over time. And what better ‘environment’ than that of local TV stations and its magicians, fortune tellers and numerologists to talk about this dispersion?” (L. Picarella)

Leandro Picarella
Filmmaker and producer, Leandro Picarella was born in Agrigento, Italy, in 1984. He graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Palermo). He is one of the founders of the film production company Qoomoon, created in Sicily in 2017.
